55th Assembly District Update: September 12, 2025

Question of the Week

In lieu of a Question of the Week, remember that every day is a gift—make the most of it by making the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time.

Session Day

This week, the Assembly met on the floor for the first time since summer break. We debated and voted on numerous important bills and a resolution — and all of them passed, including:

Wisconsin State Rep. Nate Gustafson speaks on the Assembly floor on September 11, 2025.

  • AB 33 – relating to depictions of nudity and penalties.
  • AB 39 – requiring state employees to perform their work in-office.
  • AB 58 – regulating which flags can be flown on state and local buildings.
  • AB 146 – addressing requests for information from employers about unemployment insurance claims.
  • AB 161 – prohibiting governmental restrictions based on the energy source of a motor vehicle or device.
  • AB 189 – allowing optional final hearings by affidavit for divorce cases.
  • AB 308 – prohibiting funding for health services for individuals unlawfully present in the U.S.
  • AB 387 – a correction bill for 2025 Wisconsin Act 15.
  • AB 388 – creating a grant program for an integrated mental health facility.
  • AJR 83 – recognizing September 15 to October 15, 2025, as Hispanic Heritage Month in Wisconsin.

Assembly Bill 211

We also voted on Assembly Bill 211, which I authored with Senator Tomczyk, to exempt tobacco bars from the public smoking ban. The bill passed the Assembly by a vote of 57–37 and now moves to the Senate for consideration. You can read my press release below.

Patriot Day: Never Forget

24 years ago, the idea of America was attacked. We remember the lives lost, the bravery of first responders, and the resilience shown in the face of tragedy. Out of that dark day came unity, courage, and an enduring reminder that our strength lies in standing together.
