In-District Events

[see featured photo above] This past weekend, I attended the Hmong National Labor Day Festival, which commemorated 50 years since veterans from the Secret War resettled in the United States. It was an honor to be a part of the celebration of the Hmong community’s history, contributions, and traditions here in the Fox Valley.

I also had a great time at the 50th Annual Boom Bay Heights Labor Day Picnic! [see photo below] Proceeds from this long-standing tradition go right back into the community—supporting our local EMTs and the Boom Bay Fire Department, funding scholarships for local high school students, making much-needed improvements to Boom Bay Park, and helping area nonprofits.

Committee on Ways and Means

This week, the Committee on Ways and Means met for both an executive session and a public hearing. In executive session, we passed four bills—AB 38, AB 280, AB 369, and AB 375—which will now move forward to the Assembly floor. We also held a public hearing on AB 219, which I am proud to co-sponsor. This legislation would create a tax credit to modernize rail infrastructure, improving safety, boosting efficiency, and strengthening Wisconsin’s transportation network for years to come.

The Committee on Ways and Means met for both an executive session and a public hearing.

Executive Session

  • AB 38 – Creates an income tax exemption for tips received by employees from their customers, allowing workers in industries like hospitality to keep more of what they earn. Passed 8-2.
  • AB 280 – Expands the business development tax credit to include workforce housing and childcare awards, helping address two of the biggest challenges facing Wisconsin workers and employers. Passed 10-0.
  • AB 369 – Establishes a tax credit for businesses that provide child care to their employees, making it easier for parents to stay in the workforce while ensuring kids have safe, quality care. Passed 10-0.
  • AB 375 – Improves the historic rehabilitation tax credit to encourage investment in preserving and revitalizing Wisconsin’s historic buildings, boosting economic development and community pride. Passed 10-0.

Public Hearing

  • AB 219 — Establishes a tax credit to modernize rail infrastructure and strengthen our state’s transportation network. This investment will support local businesses, create jobs, and keep Wisconsin competitive for the future.
