Madison – State Representative Janel Brandtjen issued the following statement today regarding the suspension of three Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) emergency rules:

“Yesterday, the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules voted to suspend three of WEC’s emergency rules (EmR 2407, 2408, and 2409). While I appreciate the committee’s decision, it’s troubling that the vote fell along party lines.

“The WEC’s failure to send the administrator or any staff member to defend these urgent rules is deeply troubling. Meagan Wolfe, who earns over $100,000 annually, has not attended any Senate or Assembly hearings, including yesterday’s public hearing, for the
past two years. This consistent absence raises serious concerns about accountability as Wolfe continues to manage the agency while circumventing legislative oversight. Her
indirect communication through agencies, instead of appearing in person, resembles a
cat-and-mouse game. Despite her clear intention to retain her position indefinitely, the
Senate and Assembly seem reluctant to issue a subpoena to compel her appearance.”
