Happy Friday!
This week, the Governor signed into law another bill I authored. This new law strengthens Wisconsin’s drug repository program by providing greater transparency, consistency, and accountability in how it operates.
The legislation takes a commonsense approach to reducing waste, lowering healthcare costs, and ensuring that vital medications reach the patients who need them most — particularly those who are indigent, uninsured, underinsured, or enrolled in public health benefits programs.
It includes important safeguards to protect the safety and integrity of donated medications, such as requirements for tamper-evident packaging, proper temperature-controlled storage, and detailed recordkeeping.
The Senate Universities and Technical Colleges Committee held a public hearing and executive session this week regarding the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents’ recent decision to fire UW System President Jay Rothman. The committee sought greater transparency, as the Board has provided no public explanation or evidence to support its conclusion.
Our office also held a productive meeting with representatives from the Wisconsin Hospital Association. We discussed the challenges and opportunities facing Wisconsin hospitals as we begin preparing legislation for the next session.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!
