55th Assembly District Update: May 29, 2026

Question of the Week

As the legislative session comes to an end, I want to hear from you, what do you think were the highs and lows of this year’s session? Click below to answer!

Promises Made, Promises Kept!

Due to state law, this will be the final legislative newsletter before the November election. At the beginning of the legislative session, I set five guiding priorities to help shape the legislation I supported and the votes I cast:

1. Cracking down on excessive taxation and inflation

2. Promoting Fair Competition

3. Strengthening public safety

4. Advancing life-affirming policies

5. Protecting Election Integrity

These priorities guided every decision I made, ensuring that the work of the session delivered tangible results for Wisconsin families.

Economic Relief: Lowering Taxes and Energy Costs

Helping families keep more of what they earn was a top priority this session. We delivered real relief through a combination of tax reforms and energy cost reductions:

  • Retirement Income Exclusion: Seniors 67 and older can now exclude up to $24,000 of retirement income from state taxes, while married couples filing jointly can exclude up to $48,000. This change ensures more of your hard-earned money stays in your pocket.
  • Income Tax Bracket Exemption: By expanding the second income tax bracket, working individuals and families across Wisconsin will see lower taxes, giving immediate financial relief.
  • Energy Sales Tax Elimination: Sales tax on residential electricity and natural gas has been removed year-round, helping households save on utility bills regardless of the season.

Together, these measures put more money back into the hands of Wisconsin families while easing the impact of rising costs.

Promoting Fair Competition

I opposed bills such as ROFR and WERA, which would have limited competition and increased energy costs for families. By preventing these measures, we preserved fair bidding, transparency, and local control in Wisconsin’s energy markets, helping to stop crony capitalism in the State of Wisconsin. (Assembly Bill 25- ROFR, and Assembly Bill 174-WERA)

Strengthening Public Safety

This session, I supported legislation that improved coordination between county sheriffs and federal authorities, ensuring individuals held for felony offenses have their legal status verified. Enhanced reporting and accountability help keep dangerous criminals off our streets. (Senate Bill 57)

Advancing Life-Affirming Policies

This session, I supported to strengthen Wisconsin’s life affirming laws while ensuring doctors can provide life-saving care to pregnant women without fear of legal consequence. (Assembly Bill 546)

Protecting Election Integrity

I supported the Wisconsin voters’ approved constitutional amendment requiring photo ID to vote. This measure strengthens public confidence in elections while maintaining access for voters without ID through provisional ballots. (AJR 1)
