Someone once said, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
The Epoch Times published an article by Aaron Gifford titled, The Push to Make Kids Read Books Again.
I fully agree with the premise that kids reading books is better than kids playing with their phones. But having “education policy experts” push “legislation” to force kids to read books brings to mind our #1 “medical expert”, Anthony Fauci, pushing Covid vaccines.
I’m sure that somewhere out there, there is an instance of the Feds or States dictating policy that is actually beneficial to the people. But what are the odds? What usually happens is the “good intentions” tend to be diverted and put on a path straight to hell in order to push some politician’s lust for power or money.
Don’t we have school boards? Shouldn’t school boards be the ones pushing the reading of “real” books? Shouldn’t school boards be banning phones in schools? And what about parents? Don’t parents have the ultimate responsibility to make sure their kids learn to read and get the best education possible?
To be clear, a set of parents can’t do much to influence a Federal or State government to do the right thing for their kid’s education. And one might argue that said governmental bodies don’t have a clue as to what the “right thing” ACTUALLY IS. But a set of parents CAN influence a local school board. And if they combine efforts with other like-minded parents, they can dominate a school board and transform the school itself.
Affecting the policies and directions of your schools won’t be easy. There will be tons of resistance put up by the power and money hungry establishment. But ask yourself this: Are MY KIDS worth the effort? I’m guessing that only a few of you will answer that question in the affirmative.
