This week, the Senate passed my proposal increasing access to school recruitment for the Scouts and other federally chartered civic groups! Thank you to the folks who were able to come down to Madison to watch it pass both houses this week.
Happy Friday!
This was a productive week in Madison with floor sessions in both chambers and plenty of committee activity. I’m thrilled to report that a pair of my bills passed the Senate, cleared the Assembly, and are now headed to the Governor’s desk. These include Senate Bill 11, which allows youth organizations such as Scouts BSA to share information with students on public school grounds; Senate Bill 190, which enters Wisconsin into an interstate compact for respiratory therapists to improve patient access to care; and Assembly Bill 366, which enhances protections and enforcement for legitimate service animals. Many of these measures received strong bipartisan support, and I am hopeful the Governor will sign them into law.
Other priorities passed the Senate, including Senate Bill 367, which prevents insurers from requiring providers to accept certain payments with additional fees attached; Senate Bill 498, which strengthens free speech protections for students, faculty, and staff at UW System institutions and technical colleges.
Outside of the session, my office welcomed a number of advocacy groups to the Capitol, including the American Physical Therapy Association, the Wisconsin Association of Professional Agricultural Consultants, the Addiction Resource Council, the Ho-Chunk Nation, UW-Madison, the Alliance of Health Insurers, and Anthem. We had excellent conversations about the important work these organizations are doing, their legislative priorities for the remainder of the session, and early thoughts on the next state budget.
Closer to home, I met with local leaders to explore private-sector efforts to promote healthcare career pathways throughout Wisconsin. I also had the privilege of attending a Habitat for Humanity home dedication in Neenah. Seeing the joy on the family’s face as they received the keys—and witnessing the pride of the volunteers and donors who made it possible—was truly heartwarming and a powerful reminder of what our communities can accomplish together.
There will be no e-update next week as we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Wishing you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, good food, and cherished time together!
