Judiciary Committee Hearing 9/25
I have an exciting announcement. I was just added back as a member for the Judiciary committee and will serve for the remainder of the biennium.
On Thursday 9/25 the Judiciary Committee held a public hearing on seven bills including one that I testified on, AB 380.
AB 136 modifies current law and makes it a class Class I felony to impersonate a First Responder.
AB 148 would allow an interpreter to act by telephone or live audiovisual means in a civil or criminal trial.
AB 178Â allows counties who receive TADÂ grants to use the funding for programs for individuals with mental illness.
AB 195 changes the process for revoking a transfer on death (TOD) beneficiary. It allows a person to receive proof that a decedent’s property interests have been terminated by submitting the most recent property tax bill. It modifies the process for real property wholesaler contracts. When a judgment debt is paid in whole or in part in the county where it was originally filed, this bill allows a document acknowledged by the owner or their attorney to be filed in other counties where there is a lien docket.
AB 433 requires legal notices to be published in a newspaper in a sans serif typeface and repeals outdated language about newspaper publications regarding proposed constitutional amendments and other resolutions.
AB 320 increases court fees and additional payments to help fund the county courts and adjusts fees to account for inflation.
Testify in Judiciary Committee Hearing 9/25
On 9/25 I testified before the Assembly Committee on Judiciary on a bill I drafted and circulated.
AB 380 specifies that if the Wisconsin Supreme Court imposes a suspension for a judge due to conduct, the suspension will be without pay.
In April of this year Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was suspended by the Wisconsin Supreme Court after being charged with two federal criminal offenses. She is seen on video helping a violent illegal immigrant evade federal law enforcement. While the Court did suspend and relieve her from her official duties, she has still been authorized to receive her salary of $174,512. Dugan’s court date was originally scheduled on July 21st, but was delayed until December of this year. Taxpayers have been funding an extended vacation for her, while paying additional taxpayer dollars for reserve judges filling in. This bill is written to prevent a judge that is suspended from collecting their salary and to protect Wisconsin taxpayers from the misconduct and/or commission of a crime by rogue judges.
Criminal Justice Committee 10/1

Today, October 1st the Criminal Justice Committee held a public hearing for two bills.
AB 422 provides that prosecution for hiding or burying a corpse with intent to conceal a crime or avoid punishment must begin within either six years from the date of the crime or six years from the discovery or identification of the corpse, whichever is later. The idea is that the body may not be found for several years, and we want to ensure that the criminal can be prosecuted.
AB 417 applies penalties for exposing public safety workers, prosecutors, or correctional staff to a bodily substance that may carry a risk for a communicable disease and creates an expedited process for testing.
