Child rights advocacy group Them Before Us recently released a scorecard ranking all fifty states and the District of Columbia based on each state’s laws surrounding parentage, surrogacy, donor conception, IVF, and marriage and divorce law. States that protect children and families received the highest scores.
Wisconsin received a B- by ranking very good on parentage, poor on surrogacy, fair on donor conception and IVF, and fair on marriage.
The state of pro-family legislation needs improvement. We need more state laws in Wisconsin and across the United States that support strong families. This change, however, will happen only if our governing officials recognize the value of strengthening and supporting the family. Without the family, our communities will not thrive.
